Maison L. Tramier & Fils - France

Maison L. Tramier & Fils is based in the heart of the Burgundy region, near Beaujolais. Louis Tramier, an innovative and dynamic man, created his own wine business in 1842. He chose to establish his activity in Mercurey, whose wines already had a long-standing reputation, and acquired both a promising vineyard and one of Mercurey's finest cellars. Over the generations his descendants have been eager to expand and improve the family estate with prestigious parcels of Musigny, Clos de Vougeot and other well known Burgundy names. At the beginning of the sixties, the domain launched its own vintage wine: the Rocarel. Several generations of expertise were combined to produce a high-quality wine and the vintage has now made a reputation for itself. It has contributed to the company's rapid growth, pushing it up among Burgundy's top 50.

FEATURED WINE: 2006 Rocarel
Made from a combination of Pinot Noir and Gamay sourced near Beaujolais. Pale ruby in color, this wine has a light cherry aroma, sweet fresh fruit flavor and a soft finish. A supple and elegant wine that pairs well with poultry, cooked ham, cold roast beef sandwich or soft cheeses. This wine is perfect now and will not benefit from further ageing.

Altas Cumbres - Argentina

Altas Cumbres winery was founded in 1897 and is one of the oldest and most traditional wineries in the Lujan de Cuyo Region, Province of Mendoza, in western Argentina. The region of Lujan de Cuyo is well known worldwide for its great climatic conditions for winemaking, as well as beautiful scenic views at the foothills of the Andes Mountains and the mighty Aconcagua (22,800 feet). The region of Lujan de Cuyo is recognized as "Zona Alta" or the heights of the Mendoza River and is one of the few Argentine wine regions with a "Controlled Appellation" system. This region has a long-standing reputation for producing excellent wines, acquired mainly due to the outstanding natural conditions of the valley with excellent soil, and weather conditions. In addition, pure and fresh water from melting snows and glaciers in the Andes Mountains runs into the Mendoza desert through extensive man-made irrigation systems.

FEATURED WINE: 2007 Altas Cumbres Viognier

Finca la Estacada - Spain

In this land of horizons and silences, stands Finca la Estacada, a beautiful winery among the hard, poor soils that create the best environment for high quality wines. The Cantarero Rodriguez family has been involved in the wine world for several generations, showing an amazing knowledge about the area, its soils and the grapes that they have been cultivating for so long.

FEATURED WINE: 2007 Vinansar Roble
Vinansar is a beautiful purplish ruby in color. It is a perfect young combination of the elegance and freshness of the Tempranillo (50%) grapes and the character of the Cabernet Sauvignon (50%). In the nose, it is easy to recognize ripe raspberries, currants and some earthiness typical of this region. In the mouth it is fresh and well structured, with nice tannins and a medium lasting finish. An incredibly successful blend that will pair perfectly with Mediterranean dishes; it is perfect for "tapas".

Terre del Grico - Italy

Located in the dry, red deserts of Puglia, where the people are proud and the growing conditions are rugged, Forte Canto and Terre del Grico are the names of two properties owned and operated by the handsome brothers, Marcello and Massimiliano Apollonio. Just as Sicilians often view themselves as separate from the rest of Italy, Puglians often exhibit the same level of independence. Although humble in speech, Massimiliano is a serious man on a serious mission-to elevate not only the status of their own wines, but to shine a light on their beloved Puglia.

FEATURED WINE: 2003 Rosso Salice Salentino DOC
Made from 80% Negroamaro, 10% Malvasia Nera di Lecce, and 10% Malvasia Nera di Brindisi. The name, Negroamaro has Latin and Greek roots, and actually means "blackest of the blacks". One peek at this dramatic fruit, with its darkly-hued skin to ward off the southern heat, and its equally inky flesh, and it's not hard to imagine how this grape earned its reputation. This is a wildly impressive wine. It nearly defies logic in its balance of powers, with both a sense of opulence and wonderful elegance. Its classic dense, raisiny fruits and scintillating old Mediterranean spice aromas make it a superb everyday Southern Italian experience. Drink now through 2012.

Valle de Salinas - Spain

Based in Yecla, a small Denomination situated north-east of the province of Murcia on a high plateau, Bodegas y Vinedos Valle de Salinas is a new and exciting project established in 2004 and situated 12 km south-east of the town of Yecla on the road to Pinoso. Their vineyards are located in the northern foothills of the Sierra de Salinas, a range of mountains which separates Yecla from Alicante and is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

FEATURED WINE: 2005 Roble Yecla DO
Made from 60% Monastrell, 20% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Brilliant dark cherry with purplish rim. Pronounced ripe berry fruit nose with hints of toast, nutmeg and vanilla. Velvety, rich, powerful, dense red fruit flavors of damson, plums, blackberries, herbs, combined with toasted, spicy tannins, well-structured, full bodied and balanced. Splendid intense finish.

Ronco della Rocca - Italy

Gianni Maccari, and his wife Silvana, are very serious about their wines. Having sprouted out of the rocky soils of Friuli Venezia Giulia themselves, they are sturdy and authentic, perfectly at home in their vines that trace a leafy green barrier between the mountains and the sea. The Ronco della Rocca vineyard is so loved and manicured, it reminds one of an out of place topiary garden, with each leaf having been singularly pruned or left in place, to allow just the right amount of sunlight and energy to reach each beautiful, grey-tinged berry.

FEATURED WINE: 2007 Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT
From the greatest place in Italy to grow Pinot Grigio, the Maccari family puts their heart into a wine that delivers the true flavors of the zone - slate, white flowers, pencil lead, and citrus. Only when yields are low enough (less than 2 bottles per plant) can Pinot Grigio credibly express itself - and when you taste this one, you may just feel like you're tasting Pinot Grigio for the first time. Drink now through 2010. Perfect with steamed asparagus, and radicchio risotto.

Fairview Wines - South Africa

The home of Fairview wines is a 300ha farm on the south-west-facing slopes of Paarl Mountain, a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl wine district, viticulturally among the most historic and influential areas of the Cape wine lands. Winemaking on the farm can be traced back to 1699, not quite a half-century after the first European settlers arrived in southern Africa. But its wines entered the modern era with the first bottling under the Fairview label in 1974 by the Back family, owners since 1937. Today, some three decades later, grandson Charles Back II has brought Fairview wines to world markets.

FEATURED WINE: 2008 Sauvignon Blanc
Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc harvested from vineyards in the Darling, Swartland and Stellenbosch areas. This wine is a pale straw color. It has punchy green fig aromas with a hint of flintiness on the nose. All wines are produced and bottled at the winery on Roche Harbor Road. The grapes purchased in the Yakima and Columbia Valleys are trucked to the island where full production takes place.

FEATURED WINE: 2005 Syrah Yakima Valley
A mix of vineyard sources accentuates the strawberry and cherry-preserve fruit flavors with dappled herb and earth. The effect is to add detail without mass, and it makes for a wine whose flavors belie its almost-15% alcohol. Balancing the fresh fruit flavors is a firm backbone of bright acidity. Preserved with cold fermentation in stainless steel this wine has a refreshingly clean finish. Pair with shellfish, white sauce pastas, chicken, and fish.

Numanthia's first vintage was produced in 1998 and received a 95-point rating from Robert Parker. Together they have forged special relationships with star growers and winemakers from around the world to share in their project. This partnership is totally dedicated to making great wine. Their shared aesthetic spoke for elegant, complex, balanced wines of great perfume, and finesse with the power to seduce. The object of their fancy is neither the obvious nor the forceful. Instead it is those wines that transport: They taste only of the place from where they've come. Their dream of working in France forged a partnership with the Chave family who have been making wine there for six centuries. Tablas Creek - Paso Robles, California

Tablas Creek Vineyard was founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas, longtime importer and founder of Vineyard Brands. They chose the hilly Las Tablas district of west Paso Robles for its similarities to Chateauneuf du Pape: limestone soils, a favorable climate, and rugged terrain. The partners imported the traditional varietals grown on the Perrins' celebrated estate, including Mourvedre, Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Counoise for reds, and Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, and Grenache Blanc for whites. These imported vines passed a rigorous 3-year USDA testing program, and are propagated and grafted in an on-site nursery. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown and organically farmed on our vineyard. Tablas Creek follows the centuries-old Chateauneuf du Pape tradition of blending chosen varietals, which produces wines that are more complex, better balanced, and richer than single varietal wines. Each varietal is hand-harvested when completely ripe and fermented separately. Winemaking, including native yeast fermentation and neutral French oak barrels, preserves the wines' ties to their soil, climate, and varietal character.

FEATURED WINE: 2007 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel
The Esprit de Beaucastel is a blend of four estate-grown varietals, propagated from budwood cuttings from the Chateau de Beaucastel estate. The wine is based on the dark red fruit, earth, spice and mid-palate richness of Mourvedre, with additions of Grenache for forward fruit, approachability and lushness, Syrah for mineral, aromatics, and back-palate tannins, and Counoise for brambly spice and acidity. The 2007 vintage is considered the best vintage et seen at Tablas Creek. Made from 44% Mourvedre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 6% Counoise. The wine is delicious and unusually approachable right now, with a complex nose of red plum, ripe cherry, fresh figs and candied orange peel, a velvety, layered palate with spicy plum and cherry fruit, pepper and nutmeg spices, and excellent breadth. The finish shows more mineral, plum, and spice, and a little gentle oak from the foudre aging. It is delicious now, if very young, and should evolve elegantly in bottle for 10-15 years or longer. 97 Points Robert Parker.
